
Dr. Ju Li is one of the world's most cited nuclear engineers. He serves as the Carl Richard Soderberg Professor of Power Engineering at MIT, Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering, in addition to being Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. His research group at MIT investigates energy materials and devices, spanning advanced nuclear systems, batteries, electrolyzers, recycling, and next-generation computing.
Dr. Li earned his B.S. in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from MIT in 2000. Before returning to MIT as a faculty member, he spent nine years at The Ohio State University and the University of Pennsylvania as Assistant and Associate Professor, respectively. He has contributed more than three decades of pioneering research to materials and nuclear engineering, and served as chief organizer of the MIT A+B Applied Energy Symposia ↗.
He is elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), the Materials Research Society (MRS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS). He is also a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and has been a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher since 2018.
